Because now the worst of the worst is sent to live amongst them too and there’s absolutely nothing they can do about it. For all except those who actually live in Oxly, of course.
It seemed an agreeable solution, they said. They easily accepted Agnes’s blanket description of “another plane of existence” rather than a living, thriving city. The council is none the wiser that people were, and still are, residing in Oxly. And being the smart woman that she is, Agnes kept her cards close to her chest. More importantly, how Oxly could be used for their own benefit. Agnes secured her council seat by offering something they couldn’t afford to ignore - her knowledge of Oxly. It was little more than a blip in her past and would have stayed that way had she not decided to take up a position on the outside world’s governing council for supernaturals, still hidden away from the human population. But, as we know, a way out has never been found.Īgnes, however, moved on with her life and left Oxly behind. It was proof that it was possible, driving Nicolai to the brink of insanity in his search for the exit. Agnes, in defeat or simply to spite Nicolai, left. The bloodshed that followed was historical and the death toll climbed with innocent lives caught between their feud. He hated her and would sooner tear the city apart in his quest to destroy her rather than complacently accept his new fate. A century after the curse, she realized her mistake in forcing Nicolai’s hand. To this day, there has only ever been one person to leave Oxly.
